S. Korean shares up in late morning trades

SEOUL, June 1 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shares traded slightly higher late Wednesday morning on the back of a rally in top market cap Samsung Electronics.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 0.47 point or 0.02 percent to 1,983.47 as of 11:20 a.m.

Large caps traded mixed with market kingpin Samsung Electronics rising 3.1 percent.

Global chipmaker SK hynix shed 0.35 percent, and top automaker Hyundai Motor fell 1.79 percent.

No. 2 automaker Kia Motors slipped 0.1 percent.

Top steelmaker POSCO rose 0.96 percent, while No.1 refiner SK Innovation dropped 1.83 percent.

The local currency was trading at 1,189.95 won against the U.S. dollar, up 1.75 won from the previous session's close.
