S. Korean shares up in late morning trades

SEOUL, June 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shares traded slightly higher late Thursday morning on the back of a rally in top market cap Samsung Electronics.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 1.97 points or 0.1 percent to 1,984.69 as of 11:20 a.m.

Large caps traded mixed with market kingpin Samsung Electronics rising 1.65 percent.

Global chipmaker SK hynix shed 0.18 percent, and top automaker Hyundai Motor remained unchanged.

No. 2 automaker Kia Motors slipped 1.83 percent.

Naver, the operator of the country's top Internet portal, advanced 1.89 percent.

The local currency was trading at 1,191.95 won against the U.S. dollar, up 1.05 won from the previous session's close.
