SEOUL, June 3 (Yonhap) -- South Korean actor Song Joong-ki's Chinese fan meeting event in Shanghai was abruptly canceled Friday just two days before the event was scheduled to take place, his talent agency said Friday.

The "Descendants of the Sun" star was planned to meet some 8,000 local fans in Shanghai on Sunday as part of his tour of Chinese-speaking countries.

The meeting was postponed for an unknown reason according to the Chinese event agency, Blossom Entertainment, which added that the meeting has yet to be rescheduled.

Blossom said it is "perplexed" that the meeting was canceled because all 8,000 tickets were already sold out.

Song's Asian tour that began on May 14 has attracted over 40,000 people so far. Song is scheduled to visit Hong Kong on Saturday and then wrap up his tour in Taipei on June 25.

"Descendants of the Sun" enjoyed a sensational run from Feb. 24 to April 14, as it was aired simultaneously on South Korean terrestrial television network KBS 2TV and Chinese broadcasting and video sharing platform iQiyi.

The series concluded with a viewer rating of 38.8 percent, which is rare for a weeknight show, narrowly missing the highly anticipated 40 percent milestone.
