Nothing decided over where to deploy THAAD: S. Korea

All News 20:24 June 03, 2016

SINGAPORE, June 3 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean defense ministry's spokesman said Friday that no decision has been made yet on where to deploy the advanced Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system, refuting a Japanese report.

Japan-based TBS Television reported earlier that South Korea and the U.S. have agreed to deploy the THAAD system in the southern city of Daegu sometime in 2017.

"The South Korea-U.S. joint working group is currently in discussions, and nothing has been decided regarding the selection of a location (for the deployment)," spokesman Moon Sang-gyun said in Singapore on the sidelines of the Asia Security Summit.

Following North Korea's nuclear and long-range tests in January and February, respectively, South Korea and the U.S. officially engaged in discussions to map out the U.S.-proposed deployment.
