SEOUL, June 5 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean man has been detained for vandalizing the tombstone of the late President Park Chung-hee at the Seoul National Cemetery in southern Seoul on Sunday, police said.

The 50-year-old suspect, only identified by his surname Lee, is accused of marking an "X" with white spray paint on the tombstone of the late president and father of incumbent President Park Geun-hye, at around 1 p.m.

The man was put under arrest after the cemetery reported him to the police.

Seoul's Dongjak Police Station said it was questioning Lee about the motive of the crime and other details.

The nation is scheduled to celebrate Memorial Day on Monday.
