SEOUL, June 7 (Yonhap) -- Actor Jung Il-woo will become the first South Korean to play the lead role in a Thai TV series, his publicist said Tuesday.

Jung left for Thailand to start filming the drama "Gok Rak Game Ma Ya" on Sunday, Shall We Talk said.

In the series, whose title roughly translates into "Love and Lies" in English, Jung will take on the role of Tim, a public relations manager of a major management agency with a complicated past.

Jung "decided to be on the show because Southeast Asia remains a largely untapped market for 'hallyu,'" the publicist said, referring to the worldwide popularity of Korean culture that started in the 1990s. "He is feeling the pressure as the first South Korean actor to star in a Thai drama. He is trying his best as he challenges himself."

Jung has recently completed filming "Cinderella and Four Knights," an upcoming South Korean TV series on the cable network tvN.
