Seoul shares open lower on uncertainties

SEOUL, June 9 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started slightly lower Thursday as investor sentiment remained mixed ahead of the central bank's announcement on its policy rate later in the day.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) edged down 2.14 points, or 0.11 percent, to 2,024.94 in the first 15 minutes of trading.

Tech shares traded mixed, with the country's top market cap Samsung Electronics adding 0.14 percent and chip maker SK hynix losing 1.58 percent.

No. 1 Hyundai Motor was unchanged while Kia Motors lost 0.11 percent. Top auto parts maker Hyundai Mobis also shed 0.78 percent.

The local currency was trading at 1,153.10 won against the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m., up 3.6 won from Wednesday's close.
