WASHINGTON, June 10 (Yonhap) -- The U.S. special envoy for North Korean human rights issues will visit Britain and Belgium next week for meetings with British and European Union officials, the State Department announced Friday.

Amb. Robert King, special envoy for North Korean human rights issues, will be in London on June 13-14 before visiting Brussels on June 15-16 for "regular consultations with officials from the United Kingdom and the European Union," the department said.

The envoy will be back to Washington on June 17, it said.

The EU has long been an active player in international efforts to improve the human rights situation in North Korea, leading a number of U.N. and other international resolutions on the issue, including those calling for referring Pyongyang to the International Criminal Court.
