SEOUL, June 13 (Yonhap) -- Forget about Song Joong-ki, here comes a trove of hot South Korean celebrities vying for the spotlight.

In the wake of Song Joong-ki's sensational popularity in "Descendants of the Sun" in Korea and beyond, other actors are more than ready to rock female fans' hearts in upcoming new television series.

In the second half this year, TV series will feature beloved stars like Song Seung-heon, Jung Il-woo, Park Seo-jun, Kim Woo-bin and Lee Jong-suk.

Kim Woo-bin, who rose to stardom in "The Heirs" back in 2013, will make his comeback as superstar Shin Joon-young in "Uncontrollably Fond."

In the 20-part series, Kim plays a top actor-singer who reunites with his childhood crush No Eul (Bae Suzy), a documentary producer whom he had to part with due to some unfortunate events.

Lee Jong-suk and Jung Il-woo will play to the spoiled rich kid stereotype, a character that is often used in South Korean soap operas.

Lee, who played a poor genius in his previous TV series "Pinocchio," will play well-to-do Kang Chul in the upcoming series "W." In the 16-episode suspense melodrama, Kang, a shooting master-turned-entrepreneur, makes his wealth with his successful technology startup company.

The series centers on romantic developments between mysterious Kang and curious surgeon Oh Yeon-ju (Han Hyo-joo)

Jung Il-woo is making a comeback after a two-year hiatus on cable channel tvN's "Cinderella and Four Knights" scheduled to air in August.

He will play rebellious, cold Kang Ji-un who rides a dramatic "rags to riches" journey.

Another interesting point to note in the second half is the line-up of period series.

Park Bo-gum, who received popularity and recognition in "Reply 1988" as a genius go player, will appear in the new series "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" on the KBS 2TV, as a crown prince who falls in love with his servant Hong Ra-on (Kim Yoo-jung).

In October, Song Seung-heon will stride back on the SBS' "Saimdang, Memoir of Colors."

Song will play royal painter Lee Gyeom from the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) who had long-term romantic relations with painter Saimdang (Lee Young-ae) since childhood and stands up to the corrupt establishment.

Park Seo-jun is expected to appear in KBS's "Hwarang, the Beginning" in December, a coming of age series about an elite group of male youth called Hwarang from the Silla Kingdom (57 B.C.-A.D. 935). He will play Seonwoorang, who grows into a legendary hwarang despite his low class birth.
