Suwon Samsung Bluewings sign Dutch winger Castelen
SEOUL, July 14 (Yonhap) -- South Korean football club Suwon Samsung Bluewings said Thursday they have signed the Dutch winger Romeo Castelen.
Suwon, currently ninth in the top-flight K League Classic, said the 33-year-old Dutchman will soon join the team training. Suwon, four-time league champions, did not disclose the details of his contract.
Castelen, who had 10 international apperances with the Netherlands national team from 2004 to 2007, made his professional debut with Dutch club ADO Den Haag in 2000 and enjoyed the best season of his career with Feyenoord in 2004, scoring 10 goals in 30 league matches.
He then played for Hamburg SV in the German Bundesliga and Russia club Volga Nizhny Novgorod. Most recently, he was with Western Sydney Wanderers, having netted 17 goals in 85 matches since 2014. He became a free agent after his contract ended with the Australian club.
"He is a wing forward that we've been paying attention to in the past," Suwon head coach Seo Jung-won said Wednesday night after beating Seongnam FC at the Korea Football Association Cup quarterfinals. "He is a very talented player and we have big expectations of him."
