LG to smart car parts for Toyota
SEOUL, July 21 (Yonhap) -- LG Electronics Co. of South Korea will provide key components for Toyota Motor Corp.'s smart cars, an industry source said Thursday.
LG signed a contract with the Japanese automobile maker recently to supply a "telematics" system, according to the source.
It will be installed in Toyota's new model to be sold in Japan and North America.
Telematics is a core component of connected and autonomous vehicles, combining computers and wireless telecommunications technologies.
LG is a global leader in the telematics field, taking up around 30 percent of market share.
It teamed up with General Motors last year for its Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle.
