(LEAD) Placido Domingo to hold Seoul concert in Oct.
(ATTN: UPDATES with possibility concert may be last in Seoul in last para)
SEOUL, July 22 (Yonhap) -- World-famous tenor Placido Domingo will hold a concert in Seoul in October, organizers said Friday.
Domingo, 75, will perform at Jamsil Stadium in southeastern Seoul on Oct. 2, his sixth concert in South Korea, according to Korea Art Company.
After debuting as a baritone in 1957, the Spanish singer rose to fame through his tenor roles, including as Alfredo in La Traviata in Monterrey, Mexico, in 1961.
In recent years, however, the singer has taken on more baritone roles, especially after playing the title role in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra in 2009.
Domingo last held a concert in Seoul in November 2014 during which more than 10,000 people gathered to hear his voice.
The program for the upcoming concert has not been decided yet, but it is expected to be divided into two parts, with the first half being comprised of arias and the second half of songs from musicals and other genres, according to the organizers.
The singer has said it will likely be his last solo concert here considering his age and the pressure that comes with overseas tours, they added.
