S. Korean shares open higher

SEOUL, July 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shares opened higher Monday, led by gains in techs and automakers.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 8.57 points or 0.43 percent to 2,018.91 in the first 15 minutes of trading.

Most large caps gained with market kingpin Samsung Electronics inching up 0.26 percent and global chipmaker SK hynix rising 1.09 percent.

Top automaker Hyundai Motor increased 1.94 percent, and its smaller affiliate Kia Motors also rose 1.92 percent.

The local currency was trading at 1,136.00 won against the U.S. dollar, down 1.60 won from the previous session's close.
