Moon So-ri becomes first Korean actress to serve on Venice Film Festival jury
SEOUL, July 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korean actress Moon So-ri has been tapped as a jury member for the Orizzonti section of the Venice Film Festival, the actress's management agency said Sunday.
According to CJES Entertainment, the actress is to serve as a jury member for cutting edge and avant-garde films.
She's become the first Korean actor to become a jury member for the prestigious film festival, although two local directors assumed the role in the past. Park Chan-wook was a juror in 2006 and Lee Jin-ah in 2009.
The film festival committee said Moon is a renowned actress in Korea who has persistently shown outstanding performances. It said she has set a milestone in the county's cinematic history.
Moon was awarded the "Marcello Mastroianni Award for Emerging Actor or Actress" at the 2002 Venice Film Festival. She was invited by the festival for "A Good Lawyer's Wife" in 2003 and "Hill of Freedom" in 2014.
The 37th Venice Film Festival runs from Aug. 31 through Sept. 10.
