SEOUL, Aug. 26 (Yonhap) -- A local design foundation held a fashion forum on Friday, inviting designers who work with South Korea's A-list celebrities to share their experience with aspiring designers.

The Seoul Design Foundation hosted the event at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in eastern Seoul at 7 p.m. with Seo Eun-young, CEO of local fashion company Create Bettie, as the moderator.

Seo is recognized as one of the few first-generation fashion stylists in South Korea with experience working with the country's top actors and actresses, including Jeon Ji-hyeon, Ko Hyun-jung and Jung Woo-sung.

During the forum, Park Jong-woo, better known by his stage name Bajowoo, and Lee Myung-sin, who head 99%IS and Low Classic, respectively, shared how they developed their careers as designers.

"When I decided to launch my brand, all I had was 10 million won (US$9,000)," Lee said. "But, if you look closely, there are many programs that support rising designers and artists."

Park and Kim are recipients of the Seoul Fashion Creative Studio's support plan to foster new designers in the country.

It provides studio space for designers as well as customized services, including promotion, marketing and training, the studio said.

After the forum, which was free of charge, a party was held, providing some 150 participants, mostly fashion students and budding designers, opportunities to build networks.

"Our foundation does a lot of projects and fashion is among the most important," foundation chief Lee Keun said. "We hope today's discussion can contribute to vitalizing the fashion industry in Dongdaemun."

Dongdaemun is the mecca of the country's fashion industry, always bustling with domestic and foreign visitors, as well as rising designers who seek to launch their own business.

The Seoul-based foundation was established in December 2008 with the aim to improve the competitiveness of the city's design industry.
