SEOUL, Aug. 31 (Yonhap) -- Cho Yoon-sun, the nominee for the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, vowed on Wednesday to further increase the people's accessibility to culture and help make culture become a new growth engine for Asia's fourth largest economy.

"If I become a minister, I will create an environment for the people to enjoy culture wherever they are and build a healthy ecology so culture can become a new growth engine for the economy," she said during a parliamentary hearing to see if she is qualified for the Cabinet post.

South Korea needs to keep moving its economy forward in the face of low growth and global economic uncertainty, she stressed. "And here lies the role of culture-arts content, sports and tourism sectors."

She emphasized that the country should lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution by making full use of its cultural potential.

As for the sports and tourism affairs, the nominee pledged to build a virtuous circle that would benefit everyone and will do her utmost to upgrade the country's tourism infrastructure.

The nominee, in particular, emphasized that the government will make an effort to use the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics as a means to attract more foreign tourists to the country.
