(LEAD) N.K. deputy nuke envoy visits China: source

SEOUL -- A North Korean deputy nuclear negotiator has arrived in China, a source familiar with North Korean affairs said Wednesday, amid international condemnation over Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs.

Choe Son-hui, the 52-year-old deputy director for North American affairs at North Korea's foreign ministry, arrived in Beijing on Tuesday with an interpreter, the source said without elaborating.

N. Korea renews call for withdrawal of U.S. forces from S. Korea

SEOUL -- North Korea on Wednesday renewed its call for the withdrawal of all U.S. forces from South Korea as the troops mark the 71st anniversary of their arrival on the peninsula.

"It is hard to find such absurd and unlawful brigandish act as the occupation of South Korea by the U.S. imperialist aggressors in any other parts of the world," the North's state-run news outlet Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said, painting the U.S. Forces Korea (USFK)'s presence in South Korea as imperialist occupation.

Finance minister vows all efforts to solve Hanjin crisis

SEOUL -- South Korea's finance minister said Wednesday that the government will pull out all the stops to cope with global maritime logistics problems caused by the court receivership of debt-laden Hanjin Shipping Co.

The receivership of Hanjin, South Korea's largest and the world's seventh-largest shipper, has triggered snowballing logistic chaos across the world over the past several days.

(LEAD) LG Electronics unveils V20 premium smartphone

SEOUL -- LG Electronics Inc. released its new V20 premium smartphone Wednesday, which features improved audio functions and dual-lens rear cameras.

In collaboration with Denmark's luxury brand for stereo devices, Bang & Olufsen (B&O), the new smartphone boasts a high-end audio resolution.

"In an effort to further enhance audio functions and design, LG is continuing its collaboration with B&O PLAY," the company said in a statement.

Prosecutors visit Lotte founder to check his health before interrogation

SEOUL -- State prosecutors on Wednesday visited Lotte Group founder Shin Kyuk-ho to check his health condition and decide how to question him over allegations he evaded some hundreds of billions of won in taxes in the process of handing over stocks to family members.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office said its officials met with the 93-year-old business tycoon and his doctor at his office in Hotel Lotte in Seoul.

Seoul stocks down from year's highs on profit-taking

SEOUL -- South Korean stocks shed 0.23 percent paring earlier gains, as investors sought to lock in recent gains, analysts said. The Korean won rose sharply against the U.S. dollar.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 4.65 points to close at 2,061.88. Trade volume was moderate at 678 million shares worth 4.98 trillion won (US$4.57 billion), with losers outnumbering gainers 494 to 304.

(Yonhap Interview) S. Korea eyeing Eastern European, African markets for defense exports

GOYANG, South Korea -- South Korea views Eastern Europe and Africa as "potential" markets for its weapons systems, the chief of the country's state defense procurement agency said Wednesday.

"We have gradually increased our exports by making more technologically advanced armaments. We are now seeing Eastern Europe and Africa as new growth markets," Chang Myoung-jin, minister of Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), said in an interview with Yonhap News Agency.
