SEOUL, Sept. 29 (Yonhap) -- South Korea on Thursday replaced an injured full back for upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

The Korea Football Association (KFA) said right back Lee Yong, who plays with South Korean club Ulsan Hyundai FC, has been dropped from the 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup regional qualifiers against Qatar and Iran next month due to suspected hernia symptoms.

The KFA said Ko Kwang-min will take Lee's place.

This is the first time that Ko was named to the national team roster. The 28-year-old has been a regular member for FC Seoul, currently No. 2 in the top-tier K League Classic.

South Korea will host Qatar on Oct. 6 and travel to Tehran to face Iran five days later. These countries, along with Uzbekistan, China and Syria, are paired in Group A of the final Asian qualification round for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
