SEOUL, Oct. 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's state-run Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) said Sunday it has helped the country's small and medium-sized firms in the electric segment clinch deals worth 18 billion won (US$16.3 million) in Latin America.

KEPCO said it held a trade promotion convention at three Latin American countries, including Peru last month, helping nine South Korean firms find business partners in the vast, untapped market.

The state-run firm said South Korean companies were able to promote their latest technologies in various areas, including the energy storage field.

The state-controlled electric utility corporation has been making efforts to support smaller South Korean companies around the world, aiming to invest some 20 billion won to foster 100 competitive firms.
