Olympic women's golf champ to skip LPGA event at home

All News 08:12 October 05, 2016

SEOUL, Oct. 5 (Yonhap) -- The Olympic women's golf champion Park In-bee will skip next week's LPGA event on home soil, an organizing official said Wednesday.

Park didn't register to play at the LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship starting on Oct. 13, the official said. It's the only LPGA stop in South Korea each year, and the Ocean Course at Sky 72 Golf & Resort, adjacent to Incheon International Airport, will host the event for the ninth straight year.

Park, world No. 7, won the gold medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics despite a nagging left thumb injury. With the hand condition worsened after Rio, Park was forced to skip last month's Evian Championship, the only one of five LPGA majors she hasn't won.

Later Wednesday, she is scheduled to discuss her playing schedule for the rest of 2016.
