WASHINGTON, Oct. 9 (Yonhap) -- The U.S. special envoy for North Korean human rights issues will visit South Korea this week for meetings with his counterpart and other senior officials, the State Department has said.

Ambassador Robert King will be in Seoul on Monday through Thursday for meetings with newly appointed Ambassador for North Korean Human Rights Lee Jung-hoon and other senior government officials, the department said in a statement released Saturday.

The envoy will also be speaking at the Korea Institute for National Unification (KINU) 6th Chaillot Forum on North Korea human rights, it said.

From Seoul, King will head to Tokyo for meetings with Minister for the Abduction Issue Katsunobu Kato, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deputy Director General for Asian and Oceanian Affairs Takeshi Osuga, and other senior Japanese government officials, the department said.
