'The Handmaiden' wins best foreign picture, production design in LAFCA Awards

SEOUL, Dec. 5 (Yonhap) -- South Korean auteur Park Chan-wook's erotic thriller "The Handmaiden" has won Best Foreign Picture and Best Production Design from an American film critic organization.

The announcement was made Sunday via the official website of The Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA).

Ryu Sung-hee, who accepted the production design award, won the Vulcan Award of the Technical Artist at the Cannes Film Festival this year, for his technical achievements in art, sound and filming, becoming the first-ever Korean to receive the prize.

The Best Picture of 2016 at the LAFCA Awards went to the American drama "Moonlight" helmed by Barry Jenkins, while the runner-up was rom-com "La La Land."

The award ceremony will take place in Los Angeles in January.
