SEOUL, Jan. 2 (Yonhap) -- Global sales of Ssangyong Motor Co., the South Korean unit of Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., reached a 14-year high last year, helped by brisk sales both at home and abroad, the company said Monday.

Annual global sales came to 155,754 cars last year, up 7.8 percent from the previous year.

The 2016 tally marks the highest since 2002, it said in a press release.

It also marked the first time since 2003 that the company's domestic sales breached the 100,000 mark, it noted.

In December alone, the company's global sales surged 10.5 percent to 16,705 units.

Domestic sales slipped 5.7 percent on-year to 10,700 cars, but exports jumped 59.5 percent to 6,005 vehicles.
