S. Korean to remain in Angels' system after clearing waivers

SEOUL, Jan. 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korean utility man Choi Ji-man will remain in the Los Angeles Angels' system after clearing waivers, the club announced Friday.

The Angels had designated Choi for assignment last month to make room on their 40-man roster for new outfielder Ben Revere. No other club claimed Choi off the waiver wire, and the Angels, instead of releasing him, assigned the 25-year-old to their Triple-A affiliate in Salt Lake City.

Choi made his major league debut with the Halos in 2016, after five seasons in the minors. He split his time between first base and outfield, but batted just .170 with five home runs and 12 RBIs in 54 games. He also had a stint in the minors during the season.
