S. Korean stocks almost flat in late morning trade

SEOUL, Jan. 9 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks remained almost unchanged Monday morning, while Samsung Electronics, the country's top market cap, continued to rise.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) shed 0.47 point, or 0.02 percent, to 2,048.65 as of 11:20 a.m.

Top market cap Samsung Electronics jumped 2.82 percent, and major chipmaker SK hynix gained 3.33 percent.

In contrast, Naver, the country's top portal operator, declined 2.5 percent.

Hyundai Motor, the country's top automaker, fell 0.33 percent while its smaller affiliate Kia Motors declined 0.86 percent.

The South Korean won was trading at 1,203.45 won against the U.S. greenback, sharply down 10.45 won from the previous session's close.
