100 tourist attractions listed for promotion abroad: culture ministry
SEOUL, Jan. 9 (Yonhap) -- The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Monday it has selected 100 tourist attractions across the country to promote among foreign tourists.
It is the third time that the ministry has made the biennial list of 100 popular sightseeing places since 2013 in cooperation with the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO).
Among the selected attractions are Halla Mountain on the southern resort island of Jeju; the easternmost islets of Dokdo; Gyeongbok Palace and four other royal palaces in Seoul; venues for the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, Gangwon Province; and Ulleung Island in the East Sea.
Lotte World in Seoul and Everland in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, as well as several other amusement parks, were also included on the list available on the KTO's website at www.visitkorea.or.kr.
Also listed are the trendy neighborhoods of Myeongdong, Itaewon and Hongdae, which are frequented by the younger generations, and traditional markets such as Gwangjang Market in Seoul and Maeil Olle Market in Seogwipo, Jeju Island.
