SEOUL, Jan. 11 (Yonhap) -- CJ E&M launched a TV station in Singapore specializing in South Korean movies and plans to provide more than 200 films per year, the company said Wednesday.

The channel, "tvN Movies," was launched in partnership with paid-subscription network and telecom operator StarHub Ltd. and will service some 540,000 households, according to CJ E&M.

The channel that will show some 20 Korean new releases each year, will also be available via the StarHub's on-demand streaming platforms.

CJ E&M, South Korea's leading entertainment and media company, aims to expand "tvN Movies" throughout Southeast Asia, including to Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and the Philippines, by the end of the year.

Kim Sung-soo, CEO of CJ E&M, said in a statement that the company "will be at the forefront of Korean culture's global expansion."

Overseas sales of Korean movies reached US$29.37 million in 2015. Asia, including China, Japan and Southeast Asia, accounted for 78 percent of the total. CJ E&M has been expanding its overseas business as the South Korean media market is becoming more and more crowded.

Since 2015, the company has been operating "tvN Asia," an entertainment channel, in nine Southeast Asian nations, and acquired Blue Group, a Vietnamese production and advertising agency, last year.
