Stocks open higher on Samsung

SEOUL, Feb. 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks opened higher on Thursday, as market heavyweights such as top cap Samsung Electronics traded higher.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) added 1.02 points, or 0.05 percent, to 2,081.50 in the first 15 minutes of trading.

Most large caps traded mixed with market kingpin Samsung Electronics rising 1.02 percent.

Naver, the operator of the country's top Internet portal, advanced 0.65 percent.

In contrast, chipmaker SK hynix was down 1.3 percent.

Top automaker Hyundai Motor shed 0.7 percent while its smaller affiliate Kia Motors was down 3.58 percent.

The local currency was trading at 1,153.10 won against the U.S. dollar, up 4.9 won from the previous session's close.
