AmorePacific's operating profit tops 1 tln won in 2016

SEOUL, Feb. 2 (Yonhap) -- AmorePacific Group said Thursday its operating profits exceeded 1 trillion won (US$870 million) last year on the increased exports of its makeup products.

It posted 1.08 trillion won in operating profits in 2016, up 18.5 percent from a year earlier, with its sales jumping 18.3 percent to 6.7 trillion won, according to its regulatory filing.

The group's flagship subsidiary AmorePacific Corp., a leading cosmetics maker here, recorded a 10 percent rise in its operating profits to 848.1 billion last year.

In its global business, the company saw its revenue and operating profits grow 35 percent and 32 percent, respectively, to 1.67 trillion won and 210.5 billion won thanks to the popularity of its major brands, such as Sulwhasoo, Laneige and Mamonde.

Sales in China and other Asian countries climbed 38 percent on-year, higher than the 32 percent posted in the entire global market.

The company's domestic sales rose 12 percent to 4.5 trillion won, with operating profits growing only 6 percent to 677.7 billion won.
