S. Korean stocks almost flat in late morning trade

SEOUL, Feb. 3 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks remained almost flat Friday morning, as tech losses were offset by gains in auto and chemical stocks.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 0.67 point, or 0.03 percent, to 2,070.34 as of 11:20 a.m.

Top market cap Samsung Electronics shed 0.2 percent while major chipmaker SK hynix was trading 0.95 percent lower.

POSCO, the country's top steelmaker, also tumbled 1.1 percent.

In contrast, automakers remained in positive terrain.

Hyundai Motor, the country's top automaker, advanced 0.74 percent while its smaller affiliate Kia Motors rose 0.98 percent.

LG Chem, the No.1 chemicals firm, rose 0.2 percent.

The South Korean won was trading at 1,146.50 won against the U.S. greenback, up 0.3 won from the previous session's close.
