SEOUL, Feb. 27 (Yonhap) -- South Korean girl group Lovelyz has released its 2nd full-length album "R U Ready," with title track "Wow" soaring to No. 1 on several music streaming charts on Monday.

"We've put in much effort recording (the new album). After our first solo concert in January, we've been busy preparing for our comeback," member Kei told reporters at a media event in central Seoul.

The group's new album was released late Sunday and has 11 new songs, which is a rare move amid the recent record industry trend of releasing EPs with rehashed hit songs from the past.

Having debuted in 2014, the eight-member team rose to fame in Korea with the single "Ah-Choo" in 2015.

With composer Yoon Sang and his song-writing team 1Peace at the production mantle, the new album is filled with catchy, synth-heavy dance songs with uniquely sophisticated sound and chord progressions not often seen in pop idol music.

Title track "Wow" soared to No. 1 on several streaming charts, including Mnet, Naver Music, Olleh Music. But the song fell victim to a technical glitch on Melon, the country's largest music streaming service, causing the song to vanish from that chart in the early morning hours on Monday. Melon later admitted to the glitch and apologized.

"It's an album that shows the new world of Lovelyz. To me it's like a treasure. It's our album but the songs are very good and I've never listened to this much of our music before release," member Baby Soul said.

Member Jisoo expressed confidence that the album can withstand the test of time among fans.

"I hope that the album becomes a steady seller. A steady seller is loved consistently than a best-seller," said Jisoo.

Despite the occasion for celebration, member Yein was unable to perform at the showcase along with her fellow members: she had injured her left ankle during a practice session and appeared with a cast on her left leg.

"I'm sorry for not being able to present a good performance and also sorry to our members," Yein said, who participated in the showcase for the new song "Cameo" through vocals.

Yoon Sang, who served as MC at the event, has worked with Lovelyz since their debut. He said that the prolonged work relationship with the team has forged a mutual trust between the production team and the members.

"I think the past three years of working together has led our relationship to become comfortable and to push us to make bold artistic decisions," said Yoon.
