Lotte Giants acquire new American pitcher

SEOUL, March 29 (Yonhap) -- South Korean baseball club Lotte Giants on Wednesday announced their signing of new American pitcher Nick Additon, two days prior to the start of the new season.

The 29-year-old left-hander, on a US$500,000 contract, will replace recently-departed Parker Markel on the Korea Basball Organization (KBO) club. Markel asked to be released earlier this week without having thrown a regular season pitch, and the Giants explained the pitcher had difficulty adjusting to the new league.

Additon is a career minor leaguer with a 65-63 record and a 3.77 ERA in 245 appearances across 10 seasons, including 190 starts.

The Giants said they liked Additon's experience as a starter and his command of breaking balls.

Additon pitched in Chinese Taipei last season.
