SEOUL, April 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and the United States will share the results of President Donald Trump's summit meetings with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping as soon as possible in a phone conversation between the "highest-level" officials, a diplomatic source said Thursday.

Trump will meet with Xi on Thursday and Friday (local time) at the U.S. leader's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida in their first summit. North Korea and growing threats from its nuclear and missile programs are cited as a major agenda item to be discussed.

Following the summit, the U.S. plans to arrange a telephone call between "highest-level" officials of the two countries in order to share the outcome of the meetings and discuss relevant countermeasures, according to the source.

The phone conversation will be held "within the shortest period" of the meetings.

Tensions ran high around the Korean Peninsula amid speculation that the North may carry out an additional nuclear test in time for the summit between the leaders of the two most powerful countries.

The North fired a ballistic missile from its eastern port of Sinpo into the East Sea. Experts see it as an attempt to set the tone for the summit and possibly a prelude to a major provocation down the road.

The North conducted two nuclear tests last year alone.
