Gov't to invest 1.2 tln won in medical technology development in 2017
SEOUL, April 6 (Yonhap) -- The government said Thursday it will invest 1.23 trillion won (US$1.08 billion) in the development of health and medical technology this year.
The total breaks down to 1.07 trillion won for the development of future-oriented medical technologies and 160 billion won for global research and development projects and the training of R&D personnel, the Ministry of Health and Welfare said.
The decision was made by a panel of government officials, scholars and medical experts to come up with a five-year roadmap to upgrade the country's medical technology.
The panel also decided to allocate 113.7 billion won to R&D activities for the control of infectious diseases.
