SEOUL, April 12 (Yonhap) -- U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted on Tuesday that he promised a better trade deal to China if it helped solve the North Korea problem and made clear that the U.S. would act alone if China remains uncooperative.

Trump held a summit with China's President Xi Jinping last week.

"I explained to the President of China that a trade deal with the U.S. will be far better for them if they solve the North Korean problem!," he wrote on Twitter.

"North Korea is looking for trouble. If China decides to help, that would be great. If not, we will solve the problem without them! U.S.A."

The U.S. has sent a navy strike group led by the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson to waters off the divided peninsula.

Tensions on the peninsula have heightened amid speculation that North Korea may conduct its sixth nuclear test or launch a long-range rocket around its key anniversaries in April.
