Ahn to give up parliamentary seat upon registering presidential bid: aide
SEOUL, April 12 (Yonhap) -- Centrist presidential candidate Ahn Cheol-soo will give up his parliamentary seat upon registering his bid for the upcoming presidential election, an aide said Wednesday.
Opinion surveys have shown Ahn of the People's Party in a neck-and-neck race with longtime front-runner Moon Jae-in of the liberal Democratic Party ahead of the May 9 poll.
"Ahn will resign as a lawmaker upon registering as a presidential candidate on Saturday," the aide told Yonhap News Agency by phone. "We believe this is a presidential candidate's responsible attitude."
The law does not require legislators to resign before running for president.
