SEOUL, May 11 (Yonhap) -- Former major league pitcher Jeff Manship, now in his first South Korean season, has been ruled out for six weeks with a right elbow injury.

The NC Dinos in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) said Thursday the American right-hander will need six weeks of rehab after getting diagnosed with damage to his elbow muscles earlier in the day.

Specific schedules for Manship's rehab will be determined Friday, the Dinos added.

Manship's injury will deal a major blow to the Dinos' pitching staff. Manship, who appeared in last year's World Series for the Cleveland Indians, is in the midst of a seven-game winning streak, a new record to start a KBO career by two games. He's tied for the league lead in wins and is second in ERAs with 1.49.

He broke the previous winning streak record held by former SK Wyverns pitcher Travis Banwart on April 30, and then extended the streak by beating the Nexen Heroes on Wednesday.

In those two outings, Manship was limited to 77 and 78 pitches, respectively, as he complained of stiffness in his right elbow.

Manship and Eric Hacker (3-0 with a 3.13 ERA), a fifth-year KBO veteran, have been the Dinos' workhorses in the rotation. Their homegrown starters have struggled so far this season, as Choi Keum-kang is the only other starting pitcher with an ERA under 4.00.

The Dinos fell to the Heroes 2-1 Thursday and dropped to third place at 21-12-1 (wins-losses-ties). The LG Twins moved ahead to second place at 22-12 after winning their seventh straight game on Thursday. The Dinos have a comfortable five-game lead on three clubs tied for fourth place -- the Heroes, the Wyverns and the Doosan Bears.

The Dinos have the third-best team ERA in the KBO at 3.79. They're first with 273 strikeouts, but they've given up the second-most home runs with 34.
