LG Display showcases world's first flexible, transparent 77-inch display
SEOUL, June 22 (Yonhap) -- LG Display Co. said Thursday it has developed the world's first flexible and transparent 77-inch display under a project jointly carried out with South Korea's industry ministry.
The South Korean tech company said it held a meeting with government and industry officials to exhibit its latest achievements in the display field.
The 59-month project is part of a greater government plan to secure expertise in ultra HD-level transparent flexible panels that can bolster the country's competitiveness in the area as well as build a future growth engine.
Seoul has been seeking to bolster the competitiveness of local display companies especially amid the intensified challenges from Chinese and Taiwanese players.
LG Display said its new 77-inch transparent, flexible display comes in UHD resolution. The size of the display is much larger than the earlier goal set at 60 inches.
The company first developed an 18-inch flexible OLED and transparent display in 2014, followed by an 18-inch rollable display in 2015.
LG Display continued to make significant progress in the area, revealing a 55-inch display with a transparency rate of 40 percent.
The company said its latest breakthrough is expected to help LG Display expand its presence in the global market.
