SEOUL, July 10 (Yonhap) -- Some light-emitting diode (LED) TVs made by LG Electronics Inc. are found to have a defect on their screens, industry and consumer sources said Monday.

An increasing number of consumers have complained that they display "white dots" on their screens, some of which have grown from just a few in the beginning to too many, according to multiple sources.

Hundreds of online postings have complained about the white dots at Internet community sites, and similar cases have also been reported in overseas markets, the sources said,

The products showing the defect are from LG's 2014-2015 lineup, whose backlights are what may have caused the problem, LG Electronics said. A backlight layer is a tool to illuminate pixels on a TV.

LG said it will provide complimentary repair services to those affected, extending the free-of-charge repair period for another year from a two-year guarantee.
