SEOUL, Nov. 21 (Yonhap) -- A weekend drama with dramatic turns and tension surrounding a female protagonist secured the top slot in local weekly TV ratings, data showed Tuesday.

KBS 2TV's weekend drama "My Golden Life" garnered a score of 230.2 on the Content Power Index (CPI) for Nov. 6-12, dethroning the reality show "Wanna One Go: Zero Base" featuring 11 final winners of the popular audition program "Produce 101." The show on Mnet was squeezed out to the second with 229.9.

Starring Park Si-hoo and Shin Hye-sun, the highest-rated TV drama so far this year revolves around a woman who dramatically rises up the social ladder by lying about her true identity.

The series achieved 35 percent viewership less than a month after it premiered on Sept. 2 and recorded nearly 38 percent on Nov. 12, largely due to its various hooks and addictive factors.

Despite its all-too-familiar setup, the drama is considered to successfully establish an emotional connection between the viewers and the protagonists. Moreover, its ending scenes dotted with great tension make viewers squirm till the next episode.

The index, created by CJ E&M and Nielsen Korea, measures the level of popularity and influence on consumer behavior of all entertainment TV programs aired on major territorial networks and cable channels during prime time.
