SEOUL, Dec. 4 (Yonhap) -- President Moon Jae-in's approval rating dropped from a week earlier last week, a survey showed Monday, amid renewed security concerns prompted by North Korea's latest missile provocation.

In a weekly survey conducted by Realmeter, Moon's approval rating came to 71.5 percent, down 1.5 percentage points from a week earlier. The latest poll involved 2,519 adults throughout the nation. It had a margin of error of 2.0 percentage points and a confidence level of 95 percent.

The figure marked a turnaround from four consecutive weeks of increase.

Moon's approval rating dropped to as low as 70.4 percent Tuesday when a local court released two ex-presidential aides of ousted former leader Park Geun-hye suspected of using government resources, including the state spy agency, to illegally inspect those critical of the former administration.

The release apparently prompted a controversy over the possible political retaliation by the incumbent administration, the local pollster noted.

Moon's rating, however, quickly recovered after the North test-fired an apparent intercontinental ballistic missile Wednesday, resuming its missile provocations after a 75-day hiatus.

The approval rating further climbed to 72 percent Friday after Moon and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump reaffirmed unflinching sanctions and pressure against the communist state in two telephone conversations following the latest missile provocation.

The approval rating of the ruling Democratic Party gained 0.2 percentage point to 52.0 percent, while that of the main opposition Liberty Korea Party advanced 1.2 percentage points to 17.6 percent, according to Realmeter.

The approval ratings of the splinter conservative Bareun Party and the progressive Justice Party slipped 0.3 percentage point and 1.0 percentage point, respectively, to 5.2 percent and 5.1 percent.

The liberal People's Party's rating came to 4.6 percent, up 0.1 percentage point from a week earlier.
