S. Korean shares slightly up in late morning trading

SEOUL, Dec. 4 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean bourse traded slightly higher late Monday morning as local institutional investors remained net buyers of stocks.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) climbed 5.7 points, or 0.23 percent, to 2,481.11 as of 11:20 a.m.

Large caps traded mixed with market kingpin Samsung Electronics falling 0.87 percent, and global chipmaker SK hynix up 0.13 percent.

Hyundai Motor fell 0.93 percent, and its smaller affiliate Kia Motors traded 0.75 percent lower.

POSCO, the No. 1 steelmaker, advanced 1.07 percent.

Naver, the operator of the country's top Internet portal, rose 0.24 percent.

The local currency was trading at 1,089.10 won against the U.S. dollar, down 2.7 won from the previous session's close.
