Brokerages' Q3 earnings rise 7.3 pct on derivatives
SEOUL, Dec. 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korean securities companies saw their combined third-quarter profit rise from three months earlier thanks to a solid gain in their derivative-related income, government data showed Wednesday.
The combined net profit of 55 brokerages stood at 1.01 trillion won (US$930 million) during the July-September quarter, up 7.3 percent from a quarter earlier.
In the first nine months of this year, their combined net profit jumped 62.1 percent on year to 2.9 trillion won, according to the data.
During the quarter, brokerage commission fees fell 5 percent on quarter to 2.1 trillion won.
Their stock-related income declined 15.1 percent on quarter to 37.2 billion won, but derivatives-related income jumped 85.7 percent to 754.4 billion won, the data showed.
