DAEJEON, Dec. 6 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean science institute said Wednesday that it will export a nuclear reactor evaluation program to France in line with its ongoing effort to expand technology-related cooperation with other countries.

Under an agreement, French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) has paid 40,000 euros to use the HITEP_RCC-MRx program for two years, the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) said.

The program was developed for sodium-cooled fast reactors, research reactors and fusion reactors to assess the structural safety of nuclear reactors in environments that exceed 500 degrees Celsius.

The program was co-developed by a team of KAERI researchers led by Lee Yeong-hyun and the Seoul National University of Science and Technology, the KAERI said.

"The CEA considers this program to be effective," Lee said in a press release. "It is meaningful that the tech locally developed in South Korea has been sold to France that is recognized as a global leader in atomic reactor technology."
