SEOUL, Dec. 10 (Yonhap) -- The number of moviegoers in South Korea has surpassed 200 million this year, achieving the milestone for the fifth year in a row, data showed Sunday.

The combined attendance figure from the start of January to Saturday stood at 200,367,708, according to a box-office tally from the Korean Film Council.

The attendance figure first smashed the 200 million mark in 2013 and has stayed between 210 million and 220 million, albeit without further growth. Korean films accounted for 48.9 percent of the total, or 97.83 million viewers.

The number of viewers for Korean films is expected to break the 100 million mark this year, as a slate of local blockbusters, such as "Steel Rain," "Along With the God: The Two Worlds" and "1987: When the Day Comes," all hit theaters this month.
