SEOUL, Dec. 10 (Yonhap) -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in's chief of staff has been sent to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Lebanon as a special envoy, the Cheong Wa Dae said Sunday.

Im Jong-seok is scheduled to pay visits to Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of UAE's Abu Dhabi, and Lebanese President Michel Aoun on Sunday and Monday local time, respectively, the presidential office said.

The chief of staff will also meet South Korean troops in the two countries. South Korea has maintained a military unit named "Akh," an Arabic word meaning "brother," in the UAE since 2011. The country's Dongmyeong unit in Lebanon is the longest-serving South Korean force abroad, as it actively supports peacekeeping operations with the U.N. Interim Forces in the country.

The trip marks the first overseas tour by a presidential chief of staff in the capacity as a special envoy in 14 years.
