3 out of 10 postpone cancer checkups: survey

SEOUL, Dec. 11 (Yonhap) -- Three out of 10 people postponed their cancer checkups, a survey showed Monday, which was conducted to raise awareness over the leading cause of death in South Korea.

According to the survey by the National Cancer Center, 34.9 percent of the people did not receive further examinations for cancer after being advised to do so during their annual mandatory medical checkups.

The survey was conducted on 4,000 people between August and September, it said

Most of the people said they did not have time or were not financially able to visit the hospitals for further examinations, the survey showed.

The survey showed that 55.7 percent of people, meanwhile, visited hospitals to receive the detailed checkups and received appropriate treatment. Around 10 percent of those surveyed didn't respond.
