Seoul picks Kia Stinger as one of top 3 safest cars this year
SEOUL, Dec. 13 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has selected Kia Motors Corp.'s Stinger sports car and two German models as the top three safest vehicles this year, the transport ministry said Wednesday.
In an analysis of 11 domestic and imported vehicles, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport picked BMW's 520d sedan, Mercedes-Benz's E220d sedan and Kia Motors' Stinger as the three safest vehicles of 2017.
The BWM 520d won the highest score with 99.1 points, followed by the E220d's 97.4 and the Stinger's 92.6, the ministry said in a statement.
This year, the ministry gave extra points to vehicles that carry additional cutting-edge safety features aimed at preventing accidents. Last year, according to the statement, it analyzed three safety features -- front collision warning systems, lane departure warning alerts and safety belt alerts.
