SEOUL, Dec. 13 (Yonhap) -- POSCO, South Korea's leading steelmaker, said Wednesday that its auto steel processing plant in eastern China has sold an accumulated 5 million tons of steel.

The plant in Suzhou in China's eastern Jiangsu Province is POSCO's first plant overseas to reach the milestone, said POSCO Automotive Processing Center Co. Ltd., which is 100 percent owned by POSCO.

POSCO, which supplies steel to Volkswagen, General Motors and Kia Motors in China, first began operating the plant in 2004 and has since expanded its manufacturing output to produce up to 470,000 tons of cold and hot-rolled steel annually.

The plant is the largest of its kind in China and is equipped with facilities to tailor steel products to customers' needs, the steelmaker said.
