SEOUL, Dec. 15 (Yonhap) -- North Korea warned Friday that South Korea will pay a dear price for imposing fresh sanctions against Pyongyang over its nuclear and missile programs.

The Consultative Council for National Reconciliation, a North Korean body handling inter-Korean exchange and cooperation, lashed out at South Korea's sanctions as another intolerable politically motivated provocation of North Korea.

"The foolish sanctions and pressure racket of the rabid dogs serving the U.S. will only make them pay a dear price," an unidentified spokesman of the Consultative Council for National Reconciliation said in comments carried by North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency.

Earlier this week, South Korea added 20 North Korean organizations and 12 individuals to its sanctions blacklist as part of its efforts to cut off international funding for Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs.
